Doing that crossword to stimulate your brain?
Apparently a brisk 30 minute walk every day beats doing the crossword for brain health. The walking actually re-grows the brain! How cool is that? So you get physically fitter as well as mentally fitter. That 30 minute walk will also improve your stomach and quad muscles which in turn supports your lower back – take note all of you with lower back pain. And you can connect with nature which is very good for all of us on a energetic level. I like to think about the air flowing around and through me – a bit of quantum physics there for you! – and having it giving all my cells a bit of clean out of any stale energy whilst I walk.
Green fingered? Or a menace to plantkind?!
If you are like me and tend to forget to water your houseplants – so much so that I don’t have very many and those that I do have are sturdy little chaps! – then there is a great new device being developed that will be able to listen to plants and tell when they are unhappy! Apparently if they need water, are being attacked by pests or not liking their particular environment they give off a different electrical signal and scientists are developing a sensor that will attach to a leaf – a little like a paperclip – and this will read these signals and so tell us what the plant needs. Of course I could just do some muscle testing for the plant but I kind of forget to do that so maybe a little sensor with an alarm to pull my attention would be a good thing for plants in my house. If you suddenly start seeing loads of plants inside you’ll know I’ve bought a job lot of them!!
Type II Diabetes
Another reason for looking after your blood sugars – for those people on incretin mimetic drugs there is double to risk of developing pancreatitis and this can be a precursor for pancreatic cancer which does not have a great record of recovering from. One of the reasons being that the enzymes the body needs to detect cancer are produced by the pancreas so if you get cancer there it’s likely that your production of these enzymes will be seriously restricted. You can take these enzymes as supplements but I’m not 100% sure that they can cross from the digestive system into the body – which is the problem with vitamin C. Vitamin C is an excellent anti-cancer vitamin – preventative – but for a person who has already been diagnosed with cancer it needs to be given in a way it can get into the cells in high doses and current studies say that that is not via an oral supplement.
Rogue proteins can lead to dementia, Alzheimer’s, Diabetes, etc
And where do these rogue proteins come from? Chemicals in junk food that is high in sugar! These chemicals are advanced glycation end products and create these rogue proteins that suppresses an enzyme (SIRT1) that protects the brain which in turn allows these proteins to clog up the brain! Another reason to limit the intact of junk foods – we all need our SIRT1 😀
And finally – Thought for the day
You can’t live a perfect day without doing something for someone who will never be able to repay you – John Wooden (I love this quote and will put this in my diary as a daily reminder)
